Welcome to Concordia Thunder Athletics!

Concordia has a long tradition of excellence as a member the Alberta Colleges' Athletic Conference in men's hockey, men's and women's soccer, badminton,  cross-country running, golf, curling, and basketball. In addition to these sports Concordia also competes in the Alberta College Athletics League in Volleyball.

ID Camps Dates Announced

The Concordia University College of Alberta Athletics Department has announced the dates for Identification Camps for Men's and Women's Basketball and Men's and Women's Volleyball. These camps are intended to identify potential athletes for the 2010-11 athletic season. For more information or an invitation to the camp please contact the head coach as listed.

Men's Volleyball Announce New Recruit

The Concordia University College of Alberta Men's Volleyball team is pleased to announce the commitment of Left Side player Chad Hinchey of the NWT for the 2010-11 Volleyball season. Chad is a 6'2" Left Side who can also play middle, Hinchey is currently captain of the Great Slave Ice Volleyball Club, and has been leading his team up the ranks in the U18 club division in the Alberta Volleyball Association.  "Chad has great jumping ability and has that winning attitude that will provide us with that positive energy going into our second season." says Coach Zoeteman about his latest addition.

Hockey Advances to ACAC Finals

March 8 2010

Thunder Hockey will be playing for the ACAC Championship as they have advanced past the Mount Royal University Cougars in three straight games to now face the defending ACAC Champion SAIT Trojans. The Thunder headed to Calgary Friday March 5th with a two game advantage over the higher seeded Cougars and used that momentum to win the third straight game by a score of 4-3. Myles McRae would net a pair of goals in the win while Dylan Hole and Mackenzie Groenewegen would each net single goals in the win. The Thunder now advance to the best of 5 ACAC Men's Hockey Finals for the first time in seven years. The Thunder will travel to Calgary for game one of the series with SAIT Friday March 12th and return to Clareview Arena for game two Saturday March 13th with the puck droping at 8:15pm.

Badminton Wins CCAA Silver in Mixed Doubles

The Concordia University College of Alberta Badminton team took to the national stage this past weekend at the 2009-10 CCAA Badminton National Championships and returned with a CCAA National Silver medal in Mixed doubles. After winning the ACAC in Men's singles Concordia's Jie Yung Sim hoped to repeat the same performance at the National Championships however it would not be as Jie would fall short of medal contention in the Bronze Medal final to finish fourth. Concordia would however reach the podium in Mixed doubles as CCAA All-Canadian Grace Box and her teammate Jake Perry would run the table with a perfect 5-0 record in round robin play. Box and Perry would advance to the semi-finals defeating a strong team from Vancouver Island University (BCCAA) before falling to a very talented Humber College (OCAA) team in the gold medal final. Congratulations to all the Concordia Badminton Athletes on an outstanding season.

Women's Basketball Win ACAC Bronze

The Concordia University College of Alberta Women's Basketball team has won the ACAC Bronze Medal for the 2009-10 ACAC basketball season. The Thunder had earned the right to host the 2009-10 ACAC Final Four Women's Basketball Championships after going an impressive 21-3 in league play during the regular season. Friday March 5th the Thunder took to their home court at the Ralph King Athletics Center to face the defending 2008-09 ACAC champion Lethbridge College Kodiaks. The Thunder would fall behind early and despite several valiant comeback surges Concordia was never able to over come the early deficit and would fall to the Kodiaks 77-69 (Box Score). Fifth year guard Cailin Lissel would lead the Thunder in the loss with 18 points 8 rebounds and 3 assists while sophomore guard Erika Bergum would notch 14 points for the Thunder. Saturday March 6th the Thunder would take to the floor in a rematch of the 2008-09 Bronze medal game against the Kings Eagles. This time however the result would end in Concordia's favor as the Thunder handily defeated Kings 82-64 (Box Score). All-Conference forward Jordan Anstice would lead Concordia in the Bronze Medal game with 20 points and 6 rebounds. Congratulations to the Thunder Women's Basketball team on a terrific season.

Grace Box Named CCAA Badminton All-Canadian

March 4 2010

The Canadian Colleges Athletics Association is pleased to announce the 2009-10 CCAA Badminton All Canadians, and Concordia Grace Box is among those elite athletes honored. Grace is one of four Thunder athletes representing Concordia University College of Alberta and the ACAC at the CCAA Badminton National Championships this weekend hosted by NAIT February 4th - 6th.
