Women's Soccer Adds Two Recruits for 2010

The National Champion Thunder Women's Soccer program is pleased to announce the addition of two new recruits for the 2010 ACAC Soccer season Jordan Staples and Amy Hans. "Both these young women will make an impact on our team next season" says Head Coach Dean Cordiero about his latest additions. Jordan who currently plays with Northwest United in the Alberta Women's Major League has been a consistent contributor to at the club and provincial levels throughout her career. Amy is also a member of Northwest United and has won provincial titles in indoor soccer in 2008 and 2009 as well as a provincial championship in 2008 in outdoor soccer in addition to a fourth place finish at the National Championships for club soccer in 2008. "I look forward to both Amy and Jordan continuing the tradition of excellence we have built here at Concordia" say Coach Cordiero.

Women's Soccer are National Champions!!!

The Concordia University College of Alberta Women's Soccer team are the 2009 CCAA National Champions! It was a story book ending to a dream season for the Thunder Women's Soccer team as they returned home from the CCAA Women's Soccer National Championships in Toronto Ontario as the 2009 CCAA National Champions. Concordia would defeat the OCAA Champion Fanshawe Falcons 2-1 in extra time scoring the go-ahead goal with only minutes to spare. Click here for the official CCAA Championship Press Release. The Thunder would advance to the gold medal game after a 3-2 shoot-out win over the host Humber Hawks and a 2-1 victory over the number 1 seeded Kwantlen Polytechic University Eagles of the BCCAA. The National Championship brings to a close the perfect season for the Thunder Women's Soccer team who finished undefeated on the year with a 13-0-2 overall record for the 2009 season. Lindsay Monkman, Trish Arends, and Kelly Anderson were each named to the 2009 Tournament All-Star team while Concordia's Alesha Weicker was honored the Tournament MVP. This marks the first CCAA National Championship for Concordia Women's Soccer in the history of the program. 
Women's Soccer Win First Game at National Championships

The Concordia University College of Alberta Women's soccer team kicked off their first game of the 2009 CCAA National Championshiips hosted by Humber College in Toronto Ontario against the hosts Humber College Hawks. The Thunder were pushed the distance by the Hawks playing through regulation and two overtimes with no goals scored until a shoot-out would determine the winner. The Thunder Women's Soccer team are the 2009 ACAC Champions after winning ACAC Gold this past weekend in Calgary. Concordia began it's journey to the championship Saturday October 24th in the Semi-Final of the ACAC Women's Soccer Championships hosted by Mount Royal University in Calgary where they defeated North Division rivals the MacEwan Griffins by a score of 1-0. Sunday October 25th the Thunder faced the host MRU Cougars in the ACAC Championship game in which Concordia emerged triumphant in a 1-0 victory to secure ACAC Gold. This marks the first ACAC Championship in Women's Soccer history for the Concordia Thunder who have now earned the right to compete for the CCAA National Championship hosted by Humber College in Toronto Ontario November 4th-7th. ACAC Announce Women's Soccer All-Conference Team

The Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference announced today the 2009 ACAC All-Conference Women's Soccer team as selected by the coaches. A total of four Concordia Athletes have been named to the All-Conference Team for the 2009 season, they include Alesha Weiker, Linday Monkman, Shauntel Lengle, and Patricia Arends please visit here for the official press release.

Soccer Teams Prepare for Playoffs

The Concordia University College Men's and Women's Soccer teams are both busy preparing for the 2009 ACAC Soccer Championships taking place October 23-25th. The Thunder Men's Soccer team will be looking to defend their 2008 ACAC Championship as they head across town to NAIT who will be this years host of the 2009 ACAC Soccer Championships. The Men will begin play in the quarter final round Friday October 23rd at 2:00pm against the Red Deer College who finished third in the ACAC South Division with a 4-5-1 record. Women's Soccer will be headed south to Mount Royal University in Calgary, having earned a first round by with an impressive 8-0-2 record. The Thunder Women will play the winner of MacEwan and Red Deer College Saturday October 24th 12:00pm.

Women's Soccer Finish Regular Season Undefeated
October 19 2009
After the final weekend of ACAC regular season play that saw Concordia win and tie the Thunder Women's Soccer team finds themselves with an undefeated record in the 2009 ACAC regular season and a first place finish in the ACAC North Division. Saturday October 17th the Thunder hosted the NAIT Ooks defeating them by a score of 1-0, then Sunday October 18th the Thunder would ensure their undefeated record with their second tie of the season against the GPRC Wolves with a 0-0 draw at the end of play. Concordia finished the 2009 ACAC regular season with a 8-0-2 record and a bye in the first round of the 2009 ACAC Women's Soccer playoffs hosted by Mount Royal University in Calgary October 23-25th.

Women's Soccer Sweep into First
October 13 2009
The Concordia University College Women's Soccer team added two more notches to the victory column the past weekend in unseasonable weather to move into first place in the ACAC North Division with a record of 7-0-1. Friday October 9th the Thunder were at home to face the Kings Eagles in a lop-sided contest that saw the Thunder post a 6-0 shut out of the visiting Eagles. Saturday Concordia faced cross town rivals the MacEwan Griffins in a tightly contested game that the Thunder won by a score of 2-1. The pair of victories put the Thunder firmly in the lead in the ACAC North with a two game advantage on the second place GPRC Wolves. The Thunder return home Saturday October 17th to face the NAIT Ooks with game time scheduled for 12:00pm

Women's Soccer add Two Wins on the Road
October 5 2009
After moving up in the CCAA National rankings to 5th in Canada the Concordia University College of Alberta Women's soccer team looked to improve their standings as they took to the road to face the Keyano College Huskies October 3rd and 4th. Saturday October 3rd the Thunder would post a shut out with a score of 3-0 over the host Huskies. Sunday October 4th the Thunder would roll over Keyano posting a second straight shut out with a score of 7-0. The pair of victories improve the Thunder's record to 5-0-1 and who now sit only a half a game back of first place in the ACAC North Division. The Thunder return home Friday October 9th to face the Kings Eagles game time is set for 4:00pm

Women's Soccer Win and Tie in Weekend Results.
September 28 2009
The Thunder Women's Soccer team was in action this past weekend with games against the NAIT Ooks and the GPRC Wolves. Saturday September 26th the Thunder headed across town to take on the NAIT Ooks. The Thunder would improve their record to 3-0 with a 3-1 win over the host Ooks. Sunday September 27th the Thunder returned home to face the GPRC Wolves for top spot in the ACAC North Division. After more than ninety minutes of play the contest ended in a 1-1 draw leaving the Thunder Women in second place in the Division with a 3-0-1 record, one game back of the first place Wolves. The Thunder are on the road October 3rd as they head north to take on Keyano College in Fort McMurray.

Women's Soccer Blank Kings 7-0
September 21 2009
The Concordia University College of Alberta Women's Soccer team took to the pitch Saturday September 19th to play the Kings University College whom they defeated convincingly by a score of 7-0. The win improves the Thunder's record to 2-0 and has them in second place in the ACAC North Division one game back of the GPRC Wolves. Concordia is on the road again Saturday September 26th when they face town rivals the NAIT Ooks then return home Sunday September 27th to face the GPRC Wolves for first place in the ACAC North Division game time scheduled for 12:00pm.
Women's Soccer Shut Out MacEwan in Home Opener

The Thunder Women's Soccer team began the 2009 ACAC soccer season Sunday September 13th with an impressive 3-0 shut out victory over the MacEwan Griffins. The Thunder's All-Conference fourth year forward Alesha Weiker led the Thunder netting two goals while freshman Defender Shauntel Lengel found the net for her first goal of her ACAC career scoring Concordia's third goal of the day. Concordia is on the road for their next game heading across the Capilano Bridge to take on The Kings Eagles on Saturday September 19th game time is set for 12:00pm.

Women's Soccer 2009 Preview
September 11 2009 
The Concordia University College of Alberta Thunder Women’s soccer team is looking forward to the 2009-10 season with a roster of 9 new players joining the 11 returning players from the 2008 ACAC Silver Medalist team along with 5 athletes from the provincial silver medalist U-18 girls team. In addition to the veteran leadership of the returning players the Thunder has also added more finishing ability up front with key recruits Forward Lindsay Vicente, and more grit in the midfield with Justine Thompson. Head Coach Dean Cordeiro is excited about the new players and confident in his returning players. “We’ve got a perfect mix of rookies and veterans. With two of our three ACAC All-Star players returning for another year we have great leadership. The team is ready for a competitive season” says Coache Cordeiro about the 2009 squad.

The Concordia University College of Alberta Women's Soccer program is excited to announce another top recruit for the 2009 ACAC Season. Forward Lindsay Vicente joins the team and promises to add to the Thunder's offensive fire power. A proven goal scorer, Lindsay plays club soccer with the Edmonton Angels having won a provincial championship with the the club in 2006. Lindsay in a graduate of Archbishop O’Leary Catholic High School, where she was a member of the varsity soccer team and was awarded Rookie of the Year in her first season and MVP in her senior year of 2003. “Lindsay will add more strength to our attack. She has great ball skill, good vision, and a lot of pace,” says Head Coach Cordeiro, “She will be a great addition to our team.”
Women's Soccer Announce New Recruit

Concordia University College of Alberta Women's Soccer Program is pleased to announce Shauntel Lengle as the newest recruit for the Thunder Women’s Soccer team’s 2009 ACAC season. “Shauntel will be a great asset to our defensive line”, says Head Coach Dean Cordeiro, “I am expecting her to be an impact player in her first year”. Shauntel was a member of the North West United Major League provincial championship team that competed at Nationals 2008 in Newfoundland. She plays youth soccer with Edmonton South West United, and has won several provincial medals and one provincial championship. Shauntel is an honors graduate from Strathcona High School. Her speed and tenacity as a defender will make last year’s provincial finalist team even stronger. Welcome Shauntel, we look forward to having you as a part of the team!
