Sam Lam Named Men's Soccer All-Canadian

After a season that saw the Thunder Men's Soccer team bring home an ACAC Bronze Medal Thunder Soccer Athlete Sam Lam has one honor to collect as he was named a CCAA All-Canadian Tuesday November 3rd at the All-Canadian Banquet hosted by Seneca College each CCAA All-Canadian award recipient is selected by their individual conference based on his/her performance and contribution to both their sport and their team. Men's Soccer Win ACAC Bronze

The Concordia University College of Alberta Men's Soccer team are the 2009 ACAC Bronze medalists after this past weekend of competition at the 2009 ACAC Men's Soccer Championships hosted by NAIT. The Thunder began the playoffs facing Red Deer College in the Quarter Final match up on Friday October 23th at NAIT. The Thunder defeated the Kings by a score of 2-0 to advance to the Semi-Final round of competition. Saturday in the Semi-Final the Men's Soccer team faced the SAIT Trojans who handed the Thunder a heart breaking 2-1 loss. The Thunder however rebounded from the tough loss to secure ACAC Bronze on Sunday October 25th defeated the host NAIT Ooks by a score of 2-0. The Thunder finish the 2009 ACAC Soccer season with a 10-3-0 overall record.

ACAC Announce Men's Soccer All-Conference Team

The Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference announced today the 2009 ACAC All-Conference Men's Soccer team as selected by the coaches. A total of four Concordia Athletes have been named to the All-Conference Team for the 2009 season, they include James Senior, Samuel Lam, Kyle Bartkus and Tristan Ilko please visit here for the official press release.

Soccer Teams Prepare for Playoffs
October 21 2009
The Concordia University College Men's and Women's Soccer teams are both busy preparing for the 2009 ACAC Soccer Championships taking place October 23-25th. The Thunder Men's Soccer team will be looking to defend their 2008 ACAC Championship as they head across town to NAIT who will be this years host of the 2009 ACAC Soccer Championships. The Men will begin play in the quarter final round Friday October 23rd at 2:00pm against the Red Deer College who finished third in the ACAC South Division with a 4-5-1 record. Women's Soccer will be headed south to Mount Royal University in Calgary, having earned a first round by with an impressive 8-0-2 record. The Thunder Women will play the winner of MacEwan and Red Deer College Saturday October 24th 12:00pm.

Men's Soccer Split Critical Weekend
October 19 2009
The Concordia University College of Alberta Men's Soccer team entered the final weekend of ACAC regular season play with first place in the ACAC North Division and the right to host the 2009 ACAC Men's Soccer playoffs on the line. Saturday October 17th the Thunder faced NAIT in the game that would decide first place in the ACAC North Division. The Ooks jumped out early posted a 3-0 lead before Concordia could net a single goal late in the second half, however it would not be enough as the Thunder would be defeated by a score of 3-1. Sunday Concordia looked to rebound from the loss to NAIT as they hosted the GPRC Wolves. Concordia would post a 2-1 victory over the Wolves to finish the ACAC regular season on a win and a second place finish in the ACAC North Division with a record of 8-2. Up next for the Thunder are the ACAC Playoffs hosted at NAIT October 23-25.

Men's Soccer Defeat Kings 3-1
October 15 2009
The Thunder Men's Soccer program braved the ice and snow Wednesday October 14th to play a make-up match against the Kings Eagles which had been cancelled earlier due to poor weather. Even the driving snow could not stop the Thunder as they dropped the Eagles by a score of 3-1. The Thunder Men's soccer team now enters a critical weekend of play where they find themselves hosting the NAIT Ooks in a fight for first place in the ACAC North the right to host the 2009 ACAC Playoffs. Concordia takes on NAIT Saturday October 17th with game time set for 2:00pm.

Men's Soccer Fall to MacEwan
October 13 2009
On a cold and wintery October 10th at Foote Field the Concordia University College of Alberta Men's Soccer team would suffer their first defeat of the season to the MacEwan Griffins by a score of 2-1. The loss has the Thunder sitting at 6-1 on the season and now tied for first place in the ACAC North Division with the NAIT Ooks. The Thunder take to the pitch Wednesday October 14th at 4:00pm to play the Kings Eagles in a game that was delayed from last week due to poor weather.

Men's Soccer Continue Winning Ways
October 5 2009
The number two nationally ranked Thunder Men's Soccer team was on the road October 3rd and 4th to face the Keyano College Huskies in ACAC regular season action. The Thunder improved their record to a perfect 6-0 with two dominant performances against the Huskies posting scores of 9-2 on Saturday October 3rd and 8-1 Sunday October 4th. The Thunder are at home Thursday October 8th as they take on the Kings Eagles at 4:00pm at the Athletics Field.

Men's Soccer Stay Undefeated with Perfect Weekend
September 28 2009
The Concordia University College of Alberta Men's Soccer team took to the pitch this past weekend looking to keep their perfect record intact with two wins. The first challenge to that goal came on Saturday September 26th when the Thunder would take on the NAIT Ooks on the road. Concordia would come away with the victory by a final score of 2-1. Sunday September 27th the Thunder would return home to face the visiting GPRC Wolves. Thunder Goalie Tristan Ilko would earn yet another shut out helping Concordia to a 4-0 win over the Wolves. The pair of victories improve the Thunder's record to 4-0 as they sit in first place in the ACAC North Division while they are currently ranked 4th in Canada in the latest CCAA rankings poll. The Thunder are on the road October 3rd as they travel to play against the Keyano College Huskies in Fort McMurray.

Men's Soccer Down Eagles
September 21 2009
Saturday September 19th the Thunder Men's Soccer team headed across town to face the Kings University College Eagles in ACAC Soccer action. In only his second regular season game as an ACAC Head Coach Kyle Samaratunga guided the Thunder to a 4-1 victory to stay a perfect 2-0 on the season and sitting tied with NAIT for first place in the ACAC North Division. In addition the Thunder are also nationally ranked 4th in the country by the CCAA National Rankings. The Thunder face the NAIT Ooks Saturday September 26th at NAIT with first place on the line, then the Thunder return home Sunday September 27th to play the GPRC Wolves, game time is set for 2:00pm.

Men's Soccer Win Versus MacEwan 2-0
September 14 2009
The Concordia University College of Alberta Men's Soccer team opened the 2009 ACAC Soccer season the same way the ended the 2008 season, with a victory. Sunday September 13rh The Thunder handed cross town rivals the MacEwan Griffins a 2-0 on Sunday September 13th. All-Canadian and perennial All-Conference mid-fielder Kyle Bartkus would strike first for the Thunder while Swedish freshman Nav Haque capped off the Thunder's win with the second goal of the day. The Thunder take to the pitch again, this time on the road against The Kings Eagles on Saturday September 19th game time is set for 2:00pm.

Men's Soccer 2009 Preview
September 11 2009
The Concordia University College of Alberta Men's Soccer team enters the 2009 ACAC soccer season as the defending ACAC Champions having won ACAC Gold and CCAA National Bronze medals in 2008. The Thunder will look to protect their championship behind the veteran leadership of 10 returning players including All-Conference and All-Canadian stand out mid-fielder Kyle Bartkus as well as CCAA All-Star and Concordia Male Athlete of the Year Tristan Ilko in Goal.Key additions to the team include Sam Lam a second year transfer from the University of Alberta, John Stonehocker a second year transfer from UBC and freshman standouts Nav Haque, Cody Gowling. Also new to the team is new Head Coach Kyle Samaratunga who looks to guide the team back to an ACAC title this season.
Men's Soccer in Exhibition Action
August 11 2009
The Concordia University College of Alberta Men's Soccer team will take to the field in preparation for the 2009 ACAC Soccer season by taking part in the Golden Bears Soccer Pre-Season tournament at Foote Field Friday August 28th and Saturday August 29th. The Thunder will open the tournament with the NAIT Ooks at 3:00pm on the 28th and then face either the UofA Bears or the MacEwan Griffins on Saturday August 29th with game times at 12:00pm and 2:00pm.
